Santiago Márquez¹ Ramos²
Santiago is a therapist working with Latinx immigrants in New York City. Originally from Mexico, he is passionate about weaving culture, mental health, queerness, and social justice into all his stories; as well as Spanish, his native language. He lives in the intersection of magic realism, existential wonder, and whimsical self-reflection; but you can also find him running between coffee shops while battling the second draft of a novel, or writing poetry for strangers at Central Park. He’s been published in Litro Magazine USA, Occulum Journal, Literally Stories, and won second place in Flash Fiction Magazine's 2023 contest. He’s been rejected by many others, but sometimes nicely. He also gave a TEDx talk on platonic affection!
He's the recipient of George R.R. Martin's Terran Prize and Taos Toolbox 2023 graduate.
¹Márquez is my dad’s last name. It gives me his history and heritage, his family. The U.S. government only let me have this one as my legal last name.
²Ramos is my mom’s last name, and her heritage through me. It’s equally as important, even though it’s second (pfft, the patriarchy amirite), and even though the U.S. government didn’t let me legally add it without hyphenating it.
